What Causes Heartburn

Heartburn is a painful feeling of burning in the chest
and esophagus that sometimes moves up into the throat
causing a great deal of discomfort. If not treated, it
can cause permanent problems in the digestive system.

Many people experience heartburn and would do well to
find out what causes heartburn in order to tame it.

There are several factors that can contribute to heartburn.
Peptic ulcers are a huge contributor to heartburn. They are
sores that form on the lining of the stomach or the duodenum. T
hey can be caused by consuming acidic foods, stress or other
reasons.

Finding the cause can usually help in treatment of them and
then they will be less likely to cause heartburn. Another
contributor may be gastroparesis. This is when the stomach
takes a long time to digest food and acid reflux may occur
resulting in heartburn. This occurs more often in diabetics
with Type I or Type II disorders. Hiatal hernias and gastritis
can also lead to heartburn symptoms.

Many of these issues are contributors that will need to be
treated more so than prevented.

The type of diet one has can give a good glimpse as to what
causes heartburn for each individual. There are certain foods
that trigger heartburn because of the make up of the amount of
acids or alkalies that are needed to be produced by the stomach
to digest it. Foods that are high in acid, such as most meats,
sugars, starches, many fruits, can cause heartburn.

Eating foods too fast can also contribute to the condition.
Try eating foods that you normally eat and see which ones seem
to be giving you problems. You will then have two options: Continue
eating them and treating the symptoms of heartburn, or cut them out
altogether.

If it is more difficult to cut a particular food out of your
diet, then consider natural remedies for heartburn.  Keep in
mind, also, that the heartburn is a sign of your body not
processing food properly and it could turn into a more serious
problem if not addressed correctly.

Once you have found what causes heartburn for you, you will
better be able to deal with the problem. If you find it is
due to stress or diet, those can be handled by eliminating
the things that cause the stress or avoiding the foods that
are contributing.

If it is another health issue out of your control, then a
doctor will be able to help you address the problems.
